Monty's Rest is unfunded and appreciates your help

The costs of caring for injured and orphaned wildlife are substantial.

Below are the financial costs, however the cost of time and energy, stress and lack of sleep (especially the 2 hourly feeds 24/7 for tiny orphans)  is immeasurable.

The heartache and trauma of witnessing the pain and suffering, and sometimes death of our wildlife,  is  hard to describe.

the costs

The ongoing  costs for wildlife rescue and care are much higher than the costs involved in domestic animal rescue.  Marsupials in particular have a number of intolerances to various food products and medications that have the potential to make them seriously ill or kill them.

Cows' milk for instance can be given to some domestic animals (but isn't good for them) but cannot be given to native animals. Many like Kangaroos and Wallabies are Lactose intolerant, and cows milk can cause organ failure and Cataract Blindness.

Specially formulated baby milks have to be used to feed native Orphans and these formulas cost a lot more than cow milk products.

At Monty's Rest we have a formula bill of $579.95 every three weeks.  We use 20 kilograms of formula during these weeks and 1 kilogram of Impact Colostrum replacer at $170.27 per fortnight.  The Colostrum replacer is necessary to build up the animals'  immune system.  Without it many animals would die from stress related illnesses.

Veterinary costs are equally high being $600.00 plus per fortnight on average.
Then there is fuel:  we spend between $640.00 and $800.00 per fortnight travelling throughout the NSW Central Tablelands to rescue Orphans and Injured native animals.

On top of this are the costs of substitute solid feed for the larger injured animals, which costs between $250.00 and $400.00 per fortnight with our current monthly account increasing with more animals being shot and wounded by inexperienced shooters.

Each time we have to use our dart rifle to capture an injured animal it costs $130.00 for the tranquilizer drugs we use.

How can we afford to do this ?

Simple - we can't.  We are constantly broke, with just about all our Pension money being used to help the animals.

We have sacrificed our social lives and luxuries to save the lives of our injured and orphaned native wildlife, and we love doing it. We just need a bit of help financially from other people who care enough about our beautiful Native Animals to make a small donation.

We do not get government assistance even though Native animal are owned by the crown.
